A little bit about myself: I'm a mother of three children and wife to an incredible husband. I've just graduated with my first college degree (it took forever). I've been a SAHM (stay at home mom) for nearly the entire time I've been a mother (which has been 14 wonderful years) minus a few years that I did work full time. My goal has never been to work for a big company or to climb a corporate ladder. My love for my children and the need to be with them has come before all else, and I've been blessed to be able to stay with them. However, my son is starting high school, my daughter in middle school, and my baby is a second grader. Needless to say that it is past time to figure out what mommy wants to do with herself.
Since graduating I've been asked one question over and over, you other college grads know exactly what question I'm talking about.
"What are you going to do now?"
or
"What can you use this degree for?"
My answer is "I don't know." Honestly, I have no idea. I've tried to find something that makes sense for my life and my family's crazy schedule, but I'm coming up short. The next question I've been asked is
"What do you enjoy doing?"
My one answer to that is super easy and is blurted out before I can stop it....
"I love to read and I love to write."
If you could do the one thing that would make you happy right now, what would it be?
Can you answer that question honestly? I can, though it's always been hard for me to say out loud. Most people look at you funny when you say "Hey, I would like to become a writer". You can see all the things they want to say negative about that in their eyes.
- It's hard to become successful at writing.
- There are so many people trying to get published these days.
- Do you have what it takes?
- You won't make a lot of money doing that if any at all.
Believe me when I say, I've thought about all of this as well and yet I'm still sitting here at my computer on a blog that I created with writing in mind. I still want to try it, I still dream of writing that great book or blog post or article that people will enjoy reading.
Guess what...I've started on my first book (I'm co-writing it with my sister) and I'm so excited to finally be throwing all fears away and diving in!
So why did I start this blog?
I'll tell you. I thought...hmm how great would it be to have a place where you can submit a short story outline, or prologue, or first chapter and get instant feedback? Is there a place to do that where you submit your idea, and you have an honest, supportive audience to say "Yes, we love this idea" or "I don't think this will work very well"? I couldn't find one. So I made it.
Midnight Writer is for me and hopefully for you, yes you. The person reading this that may be in the same position I am in. The person who is thinking, I would really like to know if my story idea will even be liked by others. This is for us. I am in no way a professional writer, editor, or anything like that. I simply LOVE LOVE LOVE books, reading, creating, and living in a world of pure imagination.
Here's how it will work. I will post an intro to a story, outline, first chapter, prologue, ect. and hopefully you will read and give a thumbs up or thumbs down. If you aren't sure about the writing, or the story, please be honest, but not cruel. Use that opportunity to give constructive criticism. If you have an idea you would like to post and receive feedback on then let me know. The only thing I ask is that the profanity is kept to a minimum and no erotica please.
